Strawflowers are also known as everlasting or paper daisies due to their characteristic papery flowers. Staple for cut flower garden! Annuals that grow about 2-3ft tall.
Location: Plant strawflowers in a sunny spot with well-draining soil. They thrive in full sun and require at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil: Use well-draining soil that is sandy or loamy. Strawflowers prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil pH (around 6.0-7.0). Amending with compost or organic matter can improve soil structure and fertility.
Watering: Water strawflowers regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Avoid overwatering, as they are susceptible to root rot. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a fertilizer formulated for flowering plants to promote healthy growth and abundant blooms.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season. This also prevents the plant from putting energy into seed production, prolonging the flowering period.
